It always amazes me how resourceful people become when they are faced with a crisis. As a guy, I don’t think I would ever have thought to attach my underwear to an overhead cable as a signal for help. Then again, I probably would have landed on my fat head and not survived the fall anyway.

An American hiker stranded in the Bavarian Alps for nearly three days was rescued after using her sports bra as a signal, police in southern Germany said Monday.

Berchtesgaden police officer Lorenz Rasp said that he helped lift 24-year-old Jessica Bruinsma of Colorado state to safety by helicopter on Thursday after she attracted the attention of lumberjacks by attaching her sports bra to a cable used to move timber down the mountain.

And to think that there was once a time when women wanted to burn their bras. What would those women do if they were ever trapped in the Bavarian Alps? That’s right, the story would not have as happy of an ending, that’s for sure.
