A Great Source For Advertising Help

Earlier this year, a friend of mine decided to go into business for himself. He’s been making quite a go of it, but he lacks in the same area I do. Marketing and advertising.

Like my friend, I have come up with several ideas over the years, and they end up being real winners. The problem, however, is that no one ever seems to know about them because my skillz are so poor when it comes to those crucial areas.

Luckily my friend found the London Advertising Directory, where he was able to find companies that could help with each of the services he required. He found a great market research agency that helped him come up with a plan to help sell his products. After that he met with a couple of graphic design artists who set him up with everything he would need for the advertising agency.

When all was said and done, the London Advertising Directory helped him get the ball rolling, and soon he’ll be rolling in the cash. Me? Well, I’m just going to have to wait for the next big idea.

Mattel Should Dump Chinese Manufacturers

Mattel seems to be having a serious problem with their suppliers.

Toymaker Mattel Inc (MAT.N) on Tuesday announced a third recall of Chinese-made toys, saying it would take back more than 800,000 units globally that contain “impermissible” levels of lead.

In total, 522,000 U.S. toys and 322,000 outside the United States are being recalled. The toys were shipped between August 3, 3006, and July 31, 2007, the company said.

This is the third recall in just a few weeks. How long until they recall every toy they have ever sold?

Doesn’t it make you wonder though, why didn’t anyone test these items before they were distributed in stores? It’s not like China has a great track record and all that. What gives?

Did someone know? Why didn’t Mattel act sooner? What did they know and when did they find out? There are all questions I am sure they will be forced to answer over the coming months.

It’s about time.

American Roads Open To Mexican Truckers

Will someone explain to me how this is a good thing for U.S. consumers?

The Bush administration can proceed with a plan to open the U.S. border to long haul Mexican trucks as early as next week after an appeals court rejected a bid by labor, consumer and environmental interests to block the initiative.

The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco late on Friday denied an emergency petition sought by the Teamsters union, the Sierra Club and consumer group Public Citizen to halt the start of a one-year pilot program that was approved by Congress after years of legal and political wrangling.

The Transportation Department welcomed the decision and said in a statement that allowing more direct shipments from Mexico will benefit U.S. consumers.

It takes jobs away from Americans more than willing to do them, it opens consumers up to more risk, as the trucks may not be inspected, and it opens our drivers up to those who may not be knowledgeable about our traffic laws. I won’t even get into the insurance issues either.

Someone, please enlighten me.

Mattel Outs Chinese Vendor

Doesn’t Mattel know that the Chinese don’t want us making such a big deal about the poisonous products imported into the United States.

Mattel Inc. on Tuesday identified the Chinese vendor that made nearly 1 million Fisher-Price toys that were recalled last week because they may contain lead.

Mattel said Lee Der Industrial Company Ltd., located in Guang Dong province, made the 967,000 toys sold under the Fisher-Price brand in the United States between May and August.

Knowing the name of the vendor doesn’t help those of us with children who may have been exposed to lead while they played with their favorite toys, but it should help other toy suppliers discover whether or not the products they sell are a risk as well.

Mattel, the world’s largest toy maker, apologized to customers for the recall and said the move would cut pretax operating income by $30 million.

Do I care about their pretax operating income? Hell no. Once again, just like Menu Foods, Mattel decides to sqeeze financial news into their responses rather than focusing on the issue in front of them. They could have, at the very least, explained what they were doing to help children affected by the recall, or something like that.

Heck, I am surprised though. They actually apologized to the customers. I wonder if they had used the word “investors” in that sentence if anyone would have noticed?

DaimlerChrysler Sets Up Shop In China

Car maker DaimlerChrysler AG has received government approval to set up a joint venture to manufacture vans in China, an official Chinese newspaper said on Thursday.

The creation of the venture, which is expected to have an annual output of about 40,000 mid-sized and light cars, had been approved by China’s Ministry of Commerce, the report said.

The firms expect to start manufacturing DaimlerChrysler’s Viano and Vito minivans and Sprinter transport vans by the end of 2008, it said.

Chrysler said last week it had signed a pioneering deal with China’s Chery Automobile Co. to produce a new small car that would be made in China and marketed around the world.

How come no one is protesting this news? You know, based on China’s human rights record? Where’s the outrage? Where’s the demand for DaimlerChrysler to stop doing business in China? Is it okay to do business in China as long as your company is not Google, Yahoo!, or Microsoft?

I’m waiting…
